The Couple Behind the Coop
Hello there, and welcome to About Clucking Time—a website dedicated to chickens, curiosity, and community! We’re Ellen and Paul, a happily married couple with a shared love for learning and a growing fascination with feathered friends.
This all started with a few casual conversations about chickens (as many great ideas do), and before we knew it, our curiosity had taken wing. Ellen, the true heart and inspiration of this site, has always had a soft spot for animals and a keen eye for organization. Paul—well, let’s just say he knows how to turn a spark of interest into a full-blown website before breakfast. Together, we decided it was about clucking time we put our heads (and eggs) together and built something fun, useful, and full of heart.
Why Chickens?
Why not chickens? They’re quirky, clever, sometimes downright comical—and they lay breakfast! As we began reading, researching, and rifling through online resources, we realized two things:
- Chickens are way more complex (and charming) than we ever expected.
- There’s a whole lot to learn—and even more to share.
We didn’t want to gather information just for ourselves. We wanted to build a space where others—whether seasoned backyard coopers or fresh-faced flock fans—could learn alongside us.
What We’re Doing Here
This site is our journey in real time. It’s a place where we explore everything from choosing the right breed to understanding egg-laying cycles, from building coops to decoding the secret language of chicken clucks (yes, they have one). We’re documenting what we learn, sharing tips, laughing at our own mistakes, and inviting you to do the same.
We’re not aiming to become full-time chicken farmers—far from it. Our coop is small (think cozy cottage, not industrial complex), just big enough to give us a little taste of the lifestyle and, hopefully, a few fresh eggs along the way. It’s about learning, enjoying, and finding delight in the simple things—feathers, funny struts, and yes, even poop-scooping days.
One of the sweetest parts of this adventure is sharing it with our grandson, Zaine. He’s completely smitten with chickens and loves helping collect eggs from neighbors’ coops. His curiosity and enthusiasm have brought an extra dose of joy to this project, and we like to think we’re building memories with him alongside this website—one egg (and giggle) at a time.
