Speckledy – The Freckled Forager With Flair

If James Bond were a chicken, he’d be a Speckledy. Stylish, smooth, and efficient, this hybrid bird isn’t here to win beauty contests — although it totally could — it’s here to lay eggs, forage like a pro, and look sharp doing it.

The Speckledy Chicken.

Also known as the Speckled Ranger, this modern breed is the result of crossbreeding a Rhode Island Red rooster with a Marans hen. What you get is a medium-large hen with a dappled charcoal-and-white feather pattern that sparkles in the sun like a feathered disco ball. And much like disco, these birds never really went out of style.

Speckledys are calm, curious, and love a good free-range adventure. They’re hardy in all sorts of weather, don’t mind keeping to themselves, and have a no-fuss attitude that makes them ideal for backyard keepers who want high egg production without the drama.

Their eggs are large and brown, their personalities sweet but independent, and their feathers are practically camouflage for the stylish bird on the go.
